How do you say that?

That D in Medugorje is not really a D. It’s one of these extra letters the inventors of the Bosnian language threw in to insure decades of laughs listening to foreigners trying to say their words. It’s actually written with a little horizontal line on the upright line of the D. And it is pronounced like a J.

The letter J is pronounced like an I or E or Y. (This may help explain why I cannot even pretend to sympathize when my friend Christine Winter complains how hard her Spanish lessons are!)

So, it is: Med – jew- GORE – e- ah.
