A grave act of terrorism

While the rest of the world is preoccupied with war in the Mideast and a plot to blow up planes leaving Enland for the US, Bosnia-Herzegovina is talking about an act of terrorism late last week.

On Friday 8/11, The Sarajevo grave of wartime president Alija Izetbegovic, a one-time Muslim leader, was blown up. The grave monument was damaged and a big crater was formed. Officials have denounced the act as terrorism.

Everyone seems agreed that this was because of the elections coming up Oct. 1, but when I ask, what exactly does it have to do with the elections or what were the bombers trying to instruct people to do? I don't get a real answer. I mean if two months before the next election someone were to blow up Abraham Lincoln's grave, would you get it?

The fear by leaders of all ethnic groups is that someone is trying to destablize the country.

But some pretty funny jokes are flying around about this too, Sarajevans being famous for the black humor with which they deal with serious situations like war and bombings.

A police spokesman is said to have given out this statment: "While Izetbegovic was dead before, this really, really assures he is absolutely and positively dead."

A radical Bosniak political leader is said (goes the joke) to have spoken out: "The use of T-3 Czech explosives using a cropped 7 second delayed Austrian quicktrip fuse was designed to cause maximum political and physical damage. I think this is a another example by Chetnik and Papist sympathizers trying to racially cleanse our dead people and I ask all of our brethren in remote villages and can't read this article to get irrationally angry and continue hating people in time for this falls elections," said Mujo Suleyhadzimuslimanovic.

When asked how he knew the explosive type, the political leader said he was just guessing.
