I didn't buy the dirndl-dress, I swear!

Bavarian spa town of Bad Tolz

Monday we drove about 30 miles south of Munich through gold-and-orange fall foliage to Bad Tolz, a sparkling clean little town set down right in front of the Alps. the Isar River runs through the middle of the place. The buildings are painted and decorated and statues and cafes fill the streets. The place is a postcard. It is authentically what all those cute little tourist places try to copy.

We shopped -- and despite the number of places selling lederhosen and red boiled wool jackets and dirndle dresses which amazingly, people actually were wearing even though there is no festival going on -- I resisted. I could not pull that off if I yodeled.
