I should have known!

One of the last?

I ate an endangered species!!

I obviously did my research after and not before dining. It turns out that the Ohrid trout, or salmo letnica, was identified as a unique species in 1924. It only lives in Ohrid, which was formed in the Ice Age and has waters so pure that with the naked eye one can easily see the bottom even when it is more than 30 feet deep. And it's become so prized by gourmets and poachers it's highly endangered. Macedonia has limited fishing for it -- but that hasn't done much.
