Dr. Svetlana Broz came into the office today for a talk with our deputy managing editor and we were all gaping at the door and hanging out for a glimpse of her. We got her to tour the office and shake hands with everyone.
Recognize her last name? It's one she shares with her famous grandfather, Josip Broz. Better known as Tito.
She is a cardiologist and author and head of an NGO that is attempting to teach children here civic courage which is defined as something like the ability to withstand evil leaders intent on breeding hatred and nationalism.
Anyway, the men in the office were all anticipating her arrival, talking like this: "I am very glad she is coming because she looks very good." Now Dr. Broz is very attractive and extremely well-dressed, but still, in that middle-aged way that usually illicits my admiration rather than the attention of the young men in the office.
Turns out they were thinking of ANOTHER Tito granddaughter involved in public work. As one CIN staffer put it: Tito had many wives and women, many children, and thus lots of grandchildren to bear his name and legacy.
