And I thought I had a complaint about public transport

Walking in the city today I saw a Roma (Gypsy) boy about 8 riding the tram.

Not in the tram. Not in a seat at all. He was perched on a small metal tail at the back of the tram slightly above the line of cars following behind the tram. It made me sick to my stomach to see how dangerous that was. If he lost his balance he'd fall under the tram or at the very least the car behind it.

The sidewalks in the center of town are so narrow that two people cannot walk together and it's not an infrequent occurrence to see a man who's drunk too much kind of weaving along a stretch I walk to and from work. I have nightmares of seeing some poor soul make a misstep, walk off the curb and land in front of the tram on the tracks right next to the curb. I've had dreams about this. Ugh.

That little boy sitting on the back of the tram, however, was grinning from ear to ear and looked like an impish gargoyle atop a cathedral frieze.
