Prickly Fig?

This was our dessert for lunch. Zied said they were figs, but I've told you about his English. These prickly pears grow in great wild bunches and fruit sellers can be seen throughout Tunis and smaller towns in front of wagonloads of the spiny fruits. They peel off the skin when you buy them. Zied got four. They are sweet, but like grapes have tiny little stones inside that you don't quite know whether to spit out or swallow. I've noticed that in the US these are eaten widely, but usually cooked or made into jam. (These are Internet pictures, not mine, but they look the same as what I saw.)
