Which is worse?

I am sending this Opus cartoon to Muslim friends in Bosnia and Algeria asking if it offends them. A number of American newspapers including the Washington Post are refusing to run Lola Granola's transformation into Radical Islamist Farima Struggle complete with Hawaiian shirt pattern veil and medieval ideas about sex relations. They worry that the cartoon might offend Muslims and women.
Nice that American editors worry about such things.
In Algeria every day editorial cartoons run that make you gasp they are so sexist, or racy, or racist and anti-Semitic. Israelis are always shown with side curls and dollar signs and women are busty and dumb.
But really, it's hard to pick which is worse -- that kind of unedited insensitivity or mindless blandness that keeps anything close to controversy out of cartoons.
