A supermarket two days before Ramadan

Ramadan, the month-long fast during which Muslims do not put anything past their lips during daylight hours, begins in two days.

I went into Monoprix for bottled water today and could barely move in the isles it was so crowded. People were piling up carts and baskets.

It was exactly like Price Choppers or Publix before Thanksgiving or Christmas.

But wait.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are feasts. The opposite of a fast.

Zied explained it to me though. When you don't eat all day that meal at night is WAY important. People shop, stock up, prepare and savor the meals during Ramadan.

There you go feast, fast -- or hurricane -- supermarkets do a good business.
