Ramadan and rumbling stomachs

* The word Ramadan comes from an Arabic root -ramida or ar-ramad, which means an intense scorching heat.

*Stick out your tongue! That command is the test if you think someone is lying about fasting. The tongues of fasters have a white coating.

*A doctor who writes a special Ramada advice column for our newspaper came to visit us today 10/2, curious to see the non-Muslims attempting to fast. I told him I thought I'd lost weight and he said it's fairly common for women to lose 1-3 kilos during the month (that's 2.2 to 6.6 pounds) by eating twice a day and staying away from too many sweets.
