Twisted Torso-- optical illusion of an apartment building in Malmo

Malmo, in Sweden just across a 7.8-kilometer bridge over the Oresunds from Copenhagen, surprisingly was my favorite part of this trip. I hadn't expected much. We came mainly so Miranda could hook up with her uncle and cousins who came here from Bosnia during the war. But it is beautiful, with strange and interesting architecture and a beachfront that unlike most other waterfronts I've visited that is uncluttered, inviting and complementary to the natural wonder next to it.

This is the Twisted Torso, a visually striking building that attracts tourists the same way Pisa's tower does. Quickly it has become a symbol of the city. It was supposed to have been the largest apartment building in the world. After 9/11, however, designers downsized and it's only the second largest.
