Budva

Founded by Greeks who traded with Illyrians, occupied by Romans in the 2nd Century, ancient Budva has turned into Montenegro's most advanced tourist locale. That means, sadly, that the old fortress on the beach and the old walled city with its winding stone alleys has been usurped by the rides, neon signs and glitch of a street carnival around the old town.

Jane only went because Doug and I wanted to see it, but I didn't feel too snobby digging into a peach ice cream cone from one of those carny stands. And Jane found a showy big beach hat.
