I boasted to friends that I was headed for the Bay of Bengal and the longest unbroken coastline in the world -- 120 kilometers of beach. Colleague Doug Cosper, a world traveler and big Asia hand took away some of my excitement with this response:

"Sounds exotic. Swimming in the bay of Bengal, huh? Remind me to tell you about how the Hindus tie certain dearly departed to rocks and send them to the bottom of the rivers that flow into the Bay of Bengal. On second thought, you don’t need to know that right now. Have fun!"
