Sound of Bangladesh

I like that here, unlike so many other places I've traveled to, I am NOT hearing old rock or schmaltzy standards from America coming from car radios and restaurant speakers. They place Bangladeshi or Indian music and it's very appealing.

I attended a concert of classical music that featured a sarod -- a stringed Sitar looking, classical-guitar-sounding instrument that means "beautiful sound" in Persian. On the back of the neck there's a golden ball that is supposed to help balance the instrument. It looks like a big goiter. The player, in a tunic and rings, sat cross-legged on a divan to play. On either side of him on the divan other men sitting like Indians played a string and drum instrument. Very unusual.
