Food fetishes

Bob and Michael threw a videmo se (see ya) party for me this weekend, a treat because Michael is an amazing cook. And she did not disappoint from chicken to salads and chocolate chip cookies. Oddly, though, her potato salad did not go over. Huge mounds were left at the end of the night. She had carefully peeled off the potato skins, thinking that would turn off Bosnian diners but it still didn't go.

Turns out that cold potatoes are considered disgusting or at least dangerous here, a sign of left-over day-old food. The only thing more reckless than eating this, Boki explained to us Americans with a smile, would be to sit in a draft.

Who knew? Meanwhile the internationals are eating a lot of potato salad. So far, no casualties.
