West Bank journey from Ramallah to Hebron

Different kinds of settlements in the West Bank: Below is a Bedouin settlement on the side of a hill on the road from Ramallah to Hebron. The move out of tents into tin and scrap wood shacks seems ill-advised but they are the norm today. Bedouins have moved in and out of the area for centuries.

More controversial has been the movement -- or incursion the Arabs would say -- of Jewish settlers into the West Bank. These settlements are solid, prosperous and to the Palestinians, highly inflammatory.

Hebron has long been known for its glass and porcelain and Renee and I did our part to support local artisans. We visited a small glass-blowing center and shop and found Christmas tree ornaments, dishware and tiles.
