At the port looking over the Golden Horn at Galetea, a section of the city founded by Genoans

The dramatic Turkish flag -- flaming red with the Moslim crescent moon and star -- makes for dramatic banners and t-shirts.

You see these all over the city. Istanbul is like NYC after 9/11 with these patriotic declaration of nationalism just on every building and pole and out of so many windows.

I wondered if this had to do with Turkey's efforts to get into the EU and getting snubbed by the likes of France, but Drew insists it's a deliberate effort at nation-building in a country with multiple nationalities.
