Phoenicians arrives in Tipaza in the 5th century, but the town was home later to Romans, who made it into a military colony, Vandals, Byzantines, Moors and Turks. Some three kilometers of ruins are left nestled among pines along the coast. You can still make out a theater and roadways and marketplaces. It's a mini Pompey that is a beautiful World Heritage site. Someday, this place is going to be overwhelmed with tourists, but we found it cheap and uncrowded.
