Wooing tourists

Souvenir shops line the streets leading up to the ruins

Toufik, one of our drivers, poses in Tipaza with a portrait of our dinner in happier days. Fresh fish and shrimp from the Mediterranean are a specialty in Tipaza, about 70 KM west of Algiers on the coast. We stopped at this shady little cafe set among pine trees for a cool drink after strolling through Roman ruins. They served beer here, a sign that tourists and visitors are welcome.
