More bad security news in Algeria

An interview in Al-Hayat newspaper is getting a lot of attention here -- Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki told the paper that he has recommended that security services in Iraq fill out an exhaustive dossier to Algeria about al-Qaeda. He said the group is pulling out of his country and intends to lead dangerous attacks in Algeria.

He didn't say whether Algeria had asked for the report or he'd done it -- and gone public about it, which is an unusual security step -- as a way to build up support for a global war on terror.

Meanwhile Algerian officials reported bringing in a major al-Qaeda leader this week. The timing seems convenient and no one outside top government officials have seen this guy. Del points out that it's hard to know what if anything to believe in news stories like these. Whenever there is a bombing, you can rely on story of valient government effort to find and arrest people within a few days.
