Question never heard here: How do you spell that?

I love how someone here will say their name, which invariably is long and vowel deprived, and the person they are addressing will go, "Uh-huh," and flawlessly spell it correctly.

Say, "Moose-tah-fah Mu-yeh-zeen-oh-vitch" fast as you can and they'll get:

Mustafa Mujezinovic.

This is because every sound here is always spelled the same way and a spelling can only be pronounced one way, my Bosnian friends explain.

But at least one skeptical American tells me joking:  nah, the real reason is they only have like 11 different names and everyone knows how to spell them.
