Women in Hebron

My friend Ann,  a diplomat and world traveler, unleashed a retail monster when she suggested it was important always to support the local artisans of the places we visit. You not only, this suggests, should spend money, you are almost morally bound to do so. All of her friends try to follow this credo.

Thus, when Renee and I found the Women in Hebron's shop we knew what to do. The women work part-time when housework and babysitting allows stitching gorgeous dresses and shawls and stringing jewelry. It can take two months to do the work on the dress I'm trying on below.

And the prices are shamefully low. I gave extra beyond what I bought for the cause. 

And I'd like Walmart to adopt the eastern custom of serving mint tea to good customers too.
